WHY TREK TO PIKEY PEAK ???

The lower Solukhumbu Trek that offers the finest view point of mountain peaks is known as Pikey. Pikey is the Hill (4090 m) which is the finest view point of Everest Region. One of the Easiest Trek in Everest region is known as Pikey Trek. This Route is being promoted as the most Recommended Route for Tourists from all over the world. Tourists will get opportunity to see thousands of peaks with Panoramic View from Pikey and Pambu. Some of them are like Giant Mountain 8848M (Highest peak of Everest), Chyo Yu, Thamserkhu, Mount Numbur ,Keralung , Makalu , Kanchanjangga , Annapurna, Gaurishangkhar and Langtang Lirung. The two peaks Pambu (3800m) and Pikey (4090M) are the best View Points in this Trekking Route which is mostly based on Home stay so as to experience typical Sherpa culture. Small cottages and Sherpa houses rather than facility based hotel. Typical Sherpa culture, Buddhist Monasteries, Pikey and Pambu are the best attractions of this Trekking Route.

Itinerary

Day 01Drive from Kathmandu to Phaplu

Almost 11 Hours drive from Kathamandu(1350M) to Phaplu(2350M) or flight to Phaplu (45 minutes). Overnight at Phaplu in Guest House.

Day 02Phaplu to Tumbuk / Junbesi

Trek from Phaplu (2350M0) to Najing for lunch. Overnight to Junbesi or Tumbuk (alternative place for overnight). Mostly, easy way up to Junbesi, you will see Hindu and Buddhist cultures, mostly with Sherpa dress. You can taste the local cuisine as your lunch, the most famous product of this Area is Ranbo Trout Fish. The fine view with different shapes of Mount Numbur and Mount Keralung and Tumbuk (alternative place for the night stay derives it’s name from “Tumbuk” which is Derived from Sherpa Language which means, “Tom” means Tiger and “phuk” Means Den). You can taste local Sherpa foods like Potato Bread and champa etc.

Day 03Junbesi to Thuthung Chhoiling to Taktor

After breakfast we must move to Thutung Chhoiling. Junbesi has been one of the most famous place for night stay from last 13 years for the trekkers to Everest region. Modern Guest houses and western food are also available here. Junbesi is famous for the Historical aspect as well. Here you will see three stupas which are made in the memory of Lamas (monk) and Thutung Chhoiling is one of the oldest monastery in Solukhumbu District where one of the famous Festival is organized every March by Lamas (Sub caste of Sherpa).

After one and half hours walk you will reach Thutung Chh0iling (2550 M) where the Tibetan and Sherpa people live their lives peacefully doing meditation. Most of the Sherpa people live here dedicating their remaining lives to meditation and finding a way to Nirvana.They leave their family and stay here, but in the case of Tibetan, they live here to teach Buddhism which is based on Ngima pa in Buddhism.

Then after that come back the same way for 1 hour and way up to Taktor(2600M).Overnight at local home stay with Nepali Dal Bhath for Dinner.

Day 04Taktor to Pike Banjyang

This is the challenging Day for Trekking. Five Hours walk up to Pikey Banjyang. After the Morning Tea and Breakfast you must leave the camp before 6:30am for the fine panoramic view of mountains. Mostly walk through jungle until Pambo(3800M).

From Pambo, there are fine Views of mountain Numbur, Keralung, Everest, Ama Dablam, Chuyo , Makalu, Kanchanjanga, Gaurishangkhar and Mount Dhaulagiri. The finest view of the mountain of Everest Region and panoramic view of mountains East to West, North to south from Pambo then straight walk to Pikey Banjyang (3750M approx.). Overnight stay in Sherpa guest house. Yak cheese, Local Ghee , Local Dairy products and much more as Sherpa/Tibetan Food.

Day 05Pikey Banjyang to Pikey peak and Back to Pikey Khop

This is the most amazing day for Trekking and quite challenging day too. 5 am welcome tea and Breakfast. Then move 3900M up, close to Pikey Hill for sun rise. The finest view of sun rise. You will find it amazing with the full view of mountains. It takes 3 hours from bottom to top, on Pikey 4090M. Most people climb quite early in the morning because the place is quite windy at the mid day. You will also see the Flora and Fauna like Danfe (national bird of Nepal), Deer, Tiger, Bear and wild Yak, Rhododendron, Pine Trees, Alpine Trees etc. Then back to Pikey Banjyang for Lunch.

Finally, downhill through jungle until Pikey Khop(2500M) and stay at local home.

This place is also famous among the Hindus for Jwala Maya Devi Temple. Once a year the Biggest Mela (fair) is held here for 3 days. At that time many people (Hindu and none Hindu) come here to see the Goddess.

Day 06Pikey Khop to Phaplu

The final day of the Trek is form Pikey Khop (2500M) to Phaplu (2350M), from where the trek actually started. Easy way down until river, then up until Phaplu. Here you will see the Hindu religious People and their local culture. it takes 4-5 hours from Pikey Khop to Phaplu. Night stay at same Guest House.
